A11 Integrating care for patients with mental health conditions in primary care

Format: Interactive teaching

The mental health integration (MHI) model was developed by Intermountain Healthcare to improve care for patients with mental illnesses. This session will describe how it evolved, how data and measures support the process, how cultural and organisational barriers can be overcome, and how this model might be applied in other healthcare systems using a structured worksheet.

After this session you will be able to:

  • Know the clinical and operational components of the MHI model
  • Understand the elements of the MHI intervention and how they might be used in your setting
  • Understand the data registry capacity needed to build a research base, track relevant measures, and support feedback reporting
  • Design an evaluation of the impact of an MHI intervention in your setting, including identifying implementation strategies
