B6 Towards safer, more dignified and more efficient care: dramatically increasing the time nurses spend in direct care

Format: Largely didactic but with much audience interaction

This session is one of a pair with B6.

Increasing the amount of time patients have direct care from nurses is a key factor in improving the safety, dignity and reliability of care delivery on a ward. Experience the methods Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB) and the Productive Ward have used to dramatically increase the amount of direct care on wards, with little or no extra resource.

After this session you will be able to:

  • Describe the TCAB and Productive Ward programmes
  • Know the key strategies for increasing time direct care time
  • Know the key strategies for reinvesting the increased direct care time towards better patient outcomes
  • Understand frameworks for preparing and starting to introduce TACB and the Productive Ward
