M1 Better quality through better measurement
M1 Better quality through better measurement
Format: Interactive, individual and group exercises, Q&A, video clips
A central concept of quality improvement is that decision making should be based on data not anecdotes. Obtaining good data means collecting it systematically. This course will provide participants with a template and practical recommendations for selecting a balanced set of measures, specifying operational definitions, and building a systematic performance measurement and monitoring plan. But collecting data is not enough: the next steps include understanding the variation in the data and determining how to link measurement efforts to improvement strategies. Both conceptual and statistical approaches to understanding variation will be reviewed and participants will be able to test their understanding of the key principles.
After this course you will be
able to:
- Distinguish between data for research, judgment, and improvement.
- Identify and build useful measures and start to build organisational dashboards
- Understand variation conceptually and statistically
- Integrate measurement skills into an overall quality improvement strategy
