C4: Clinical governance in an emergency telehealth service – lessons learned after 35,000 consultations

Friday, 25th August
16:00-17:00

Western Australia Country Health Service has an established virtual emergency department, serving a rural and remote area of 2.5 million km2. In the five years of operation, systems have been developed to manage clinical risk, workforce, workflow and technical support. We will discuss the evolution and maturation of the service, including some of challenges encountered and the methods we used to address them.

After this session delegates will be able to:

  • Apply experience gained in a busy virtual emergency department in their own settings

  • Develop a sense of the challenges of clinical governance in an emerging model of care

  • Consider the safe clinical boundaries for the provision of emergency telehealth services in a rural and remote environment
