Don Goldmann, MD, Chief Scientific Officer Emeritus and Senior Fellow, Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), works both internally and externally to deepen IHI\u2019s profile, credibility, and influence in improvement science and related disciplines. He seeks to expand the boundaries of improvement science by incorporating methods from other sciences, such as epidemiology, behavioral sciences, qualitative and ethnographic research, network science, and systems engineering and dynamics. An essential part of his work is to harvest expertise, knowledge, and innovation from the field while forging relationships with key scientific, academic, health services research, and professional organizations and communities. Internally, he works with IHI colleagues, especially the Results and Evaluation Team, to ensure the rigor of IHI\u2019s results-oriented work, and to disseminate these results in presentations at national meetings and in peer-reviewed publications. In addition, he explores new ways to teach and learn and brings best educational practices and innovations to in person and distance learning programs. learning. Dr, Goldmann is lead faculty for the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) developed in collaboration with HarvardX and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and works closely with IHI\u2019s Open School program. He also serves as senior mentor for IHI\u2019s Fellowship Programs and continues to train and mentor emerging investigators at Harvard Medical School, Boston Children\u2019s Hospital, and the Harvard School of Public Health. He is the lead created and leads a Harvard College General Education course that explores how global infectious disease challenges often lead to social injustice. He explores the intersection of improvement science, innovation and technology, with the goal of accelerating progress towards equity and population health. Dr. Goldmann serves on the AHRQ NAC, the Board of AcademyHealth, and the Board of the Institute for Medicaid Innovation.
