L5: Evolving from quality improvement to quality innovation

Thursday 9 September | 12:45-13:30

Format: Workshop

Stream: Improvement Methods

Content filters: Discussion of improvement methodology

Despite being surrounded by game-changing innovations and technological advancements, most healthcare safety and quality programs still largely leverage traditional approaches to ensure clinical quality. Audits may have evolved from the clipboard to the tablet, but we’re still managing patient safety through the rearview mirror rather than leveraging innovation to prevent the possibility of incidents occurring in the first place. Artificial intelligence, RFID, 3D process modelling, and mixed reality simulation-based education are some of the innovations showing strong evidence of improving clinical care delivery and preventing safety events.

After this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the evolving technology innovation landscape that’s changing how quality healthcare is being delivered

  • Be able to apply use cases from innovative health systems to their own clinical environments

  • Have a better understanding of what’s next in healthcare quality innovation
