F8: When the professional becomes a patient: how changing perspective improves healthcare

Wednesday 17 May | 15:00-16:00

Format: Workshop
Stream: Building capability and leadership
Content filters: Co-presented with patients, service users or carers

When a healthcare professional becomes a patient, the hospital environment you knew changes completely and does not feel so familiar and safe anymore. We can learn a lot from colleagues who have become patients themselves. The personal experiences of healthcare professionals at the Jeroen Bosch Hospital led to a new strategic program in 2017: changing perspectives in different ways by using real stories and tools to better understand the needs and wants of patients. In this session, you will learn about our programme and experience the patient’s perspective yourself through different senses: such as a patient VR experience and storytelling.

After this session, participants will be able to:

  • Benefit from a brief experience of changing perspectives

  • Use practical tools to integrate the patient’s perspective into their daily practice

  • Take away working principles: what helps to achieve this ambition in my hospital?
