BR1: Value-based healthcare: a strategic integrated approach

Tuesday 16 May | 08:00-08:45

Format: Presentation
Stream: Quality, cost, value
Content filters: Features discussion of improvement methodology, Equity

Value-based healthcare is largely focused on the alignment between healthcare systems and industry to decide on how to allocate resources to obtain optimal health outcomes for the greatest number of patients, while keeping costs low. However, if the concept of value focuses too much on reducing expenditure without sufficient and inclusive consideration of different stakeholder interests, there could be very low public support/uptake of value-based solutions. This is where the law, informed by principles of responsible research and innovation, can provide the necessary infrastructure to support the sustainable implementation and adoption of initiatives designed to achieve value-based healthcare outcomes.

After this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the role law and policy play in providing legitimacy, accountability and credibility to value-based healthcare initiatives and solutions

  • Develop tools to balance potentially competing stakeholder interests

  • Learn about value-based procurement and managed entry agreements
