EN1: Patient as Assessor of Safe Practices: Challenges and Benefits

Thursday 28 March
08:15-08:45

One of the areas where competencies of patients can improve the quality of Health Care Organisations is Patient Safety. Nevertheless, the role of patients as assessor of safe practices in health care remains almost unexplored. The role of a patient as assessor lies in voluntarily and anonymously tracking health care safe practice adherence, not to report adverse events. We present our experience and the tools and challenges of this new patient function from different perspectives.

After this session, participants will be able to:

1. Understand the role of a patient as auditor
2. Know the advantages and disadvantages of this role from the point of view of patients, health care professionals and managers.
3. Know different tools to implement this new role in Health Care Organisations
