Tom Downes is Clinical Lead for Quality Improvement at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and a Health Foundation Quality Improvement Fellow of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. His interest is developing the capability to enable the transformative redesign of complex healthcare systems. Tom has facilitated the redesign of frailty care in Sheffield. He coaches frontline staff in a ‘Big Room’ to test and implement innovative system design. The Frailty Assessment Unit and novel flipped approach of ‘Discharge to Assess’ have been discovered in this work. Tom leads the Flow Coaching Academy programme developing a network of Flow Coaching Academies across the UK.
