This session will describe the key elements of an effective management system and how the right management system can help your organization to create the focus, alignment and process improvement methods and tools necessary to drive and sustain measureable results in quality as well as other areas of performance. The example of Virginia Mason Medical Center’s work on creating flow in inpatient nursing care as well as the outpatient care setting will be used to illustrate the key concepts.

After this session, participants will be able to:
Understand the key elements of a management system
Be able to articulate the role of leadership in the management system
Understand how they might use these concepts to improve their organization’s quality/safety performance
