C5: Building Capacity and Capability: The Really BIG Challenge!

Are you ready for a deep dive into building capacity and capability for improvement? This is a challenge that many organisations are now grappling with. Using East London NHS Foundation Trust as a case study, this session will provide an overview of the theories, models and practical steps required to build capacity and capability across a system. Practical tips on how to build the business case for investment in quality, and a step-by-step guide as well as timeline for building capability at multiple levels of an organisation will be offered.

After this session, participants will be able to:

  • Develop their own strategy and practical plan for building capacity and capability

  • Understand how to use various tools to assess and track capacity and capability building

  • Apply the “dosing formula” their capacity and capability building efforts (i.e., figuring out how many people need to know what about quality improvement)
