Adverse patient safety events continue to occur in health care worldwide. In health care, as in all sciences, data and measurement is foundational to advancing improvement. There are however, variations in the type of patient safety data points available to organizations. It is critical that organizations be able to use the data that they have at their disposal to identify and address risks to patient safety. This session will explore different types of data that can be used to measure patient safety performance and will discuss how basic quality improvement principles can be used to drive improvement in patient safety.
