Through my work, I have developed a strong focus on patient harm minimisation through early recognition of patient deterioration. In conjunction, I have a strong research interest in patient\/family (consumer) escalation of care policies in hospitals to reduce preventable deaths. Previously, I have been involved in research projects exploring nurses\u2019 and doctors\u2019 views on consumer escalation of care and novel nurse-led discharge processes for patients with multiple co-morbidities. Currently, my doctoral project investigates patient and family involvement in reporting of patient deterioration in hospitals through consumer-initiated escalation of care procedures. Uniquely, this project explores the experiences of people from vulnerable population groups in reporting clinical deterioration.
