Reverend Samuel D. John was born and raised in Ipoh until A level studies, and from there he moved to Kuala Lumpur to embark on his Theological studies. While serving as Priest in the Anglican Church in various parts of Malaysia, Samuel completed his Masters in Divinity. He then went to to serve as an Archdeacon in service.

Beyond this, Samuel has helped the following NGOs: Befrienders in Ipoh, serving the visually handicapped at St. Nicholas, the National Council for the Blind, and he served as as Secretary Rakan IJN. Samuel continues to serve the National Council of Social Welfare Malaysia, he also works with Senior Citizens, serves in the BOV in IJN and is also in the Commonwealth Civil Society Advisory Committee.

Reverend Samuel D. John is married with a son and a daughter.
