Arvid Steinar Haugen is Professor at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Oslo Metropolitan University, and Senior Consultant Advisor in Advanced Nursing Practices at the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen, Norway. With a clinical background as a nurse anaesthetist, his academic and professional work is deeply rooted in improving patient safety and quality of care in perioperative settings. Haugen represents the International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists in the European Society of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care’s Patient Safety and Quality Committee.

His key research interests include patient safety, quality improvement, safety culture, and the use of surgical safety checklists in perioperative care. He currently leads a large-scale clinical trial funded by the Research Council of Norway (PASC, project no. 320475), focusing on patient involvement in patient safety.
