B2: Spreading knowledge for improvement across a whole country: learning from Sweden

Tuesday 10 March 2026 | 13:30-14:30
Stream: Science
Session format: Workshop
Chair:
Sasha Karakusevic NHS Horizons; UK

This session tells the story of Sweden’s shared knowledge management system for clinical improvement. The system is driving down disparities across Sweden and enabling more equitable, evidence-based healthcare. It is a powerful demonstration of best practice in knowledge mobilisation: combining excellent systems of knowledge curation with widespread collaboration. Patient and professional organisations, national authorities, researchers, and municipalities are engaged to ensure the right care for each individual. There is a thriving national network, focusing on themes such as systematic implementation methods, patient co-creation, gap and consequence analyses, and scaling improvement efforts. Participants bring insights back to their regions, promoting learning and dissemination through local and regional networks. In this session, the leaders from the Swedish system will present the approach and there will be an interactive discussion. There will be a response/reflection at the end from a leader from another country.
