Brent Opmeer

Brent Opmeer, PhD, is a clinical epidemiologist and health-economist with extensive experience
in applied health research where health data are used to generate evidence on effectiveness
and efficiency of medical interventions (EBM/HTA) or to improve or optimize the delivery of
health care (quality improvement). He previously held appointments as a researcher at the Free
University Academic Hospital in Amsterdam, as senior researcher and assistant professor at the
Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam, and as Honorary Senior Research Fellow at NIHR
ARC West, University of Bristol, UK.
In 2023, Brent Opmeer joined Vilans, national center of expertise for health and care, in Utrecht,
NL, as a senior researcher in the Monitoring and Impact group. His overall ambition is to help
unlock the potential of health care data for secondary use to improve healthcare quality and
efficiency. He is passionate to help health care organisations to develop or improve their data
vision, data strategy, and data maturity; to help with pragmatic and creative solutions for impactful
data and AI-informed applications developing towards learning health systems; and to enhance
implementation and spread by raising awareness and knowledge mobilisation at relevant levels in
the health care system.
