Hilde Valen Waehle

Hilde Valen Wæhle is Associate Professor at the Department of Global Public Health and Primary Care, University of Bergen, and Senior Advisor at the Patient Safety Section at Haukeland University Hospital, Norway. She has over 30 years of experience in healthcare, combining clinical work and leadership in quality improvement and patient safety. Hilde has extensive experience in advising and mentoring clinical improvement initiatives, particularly in surgical care, and provides academic supervision for master's and PhD students in quality improvement, patient safety, and implementation science. Her work focuses on strengthening the role of patients and informal caregivers as active partners in healthcare improvement. She is affiliated with the Implement It! research group and the Patient Surgical Safety Checklist (PASC) Study Group. Drawing on both clinical and academic perspectives, she works to bridge the gap between systems-level strategies and the lived experiences of patients, caregivers, and frontline professionals in complex hospital environments.
