Organisational Psychologist and Project Manager, Norwegian Directorate of Health; Norway

Joy Buikema Fjaertoft works in the Norwegian Directorate of Health with projects, policy
and presentations regarding culture and work environment, psychological safety, and
leadership, as related to patient safety. These are a part of the new national framework for
patient safety.

Joy is a certified psychologist, with a specialization in work and organizational psychology.
Before starting at the Directorate she worked close to 12 years in the Department of Work
Environment at Oslo University Hospital, Europe's largest with 25000 employees. Her work
on culture development at the hospital was rewarded with the Norwegian National Work
Environment Prize in 2018.

Before that she worked in many different sectors – both public, private and non-governmental
organizations - with leadership and organizational development, change management, cross-
cultural communication, facilitator training, burnout, work engagement and stress
management.

Joy is a dual citizen, Norwegian and U.S. American, and lives in Oslo.
