Kristin Harris

Kristin Harris, PhD, is a researcher at Haukeland University Hospital and Associate Professor at the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. She teaches on the Master’s programme in Intensive Care Nursing, specialising in patient safety, advanced clinical care, and research methodology.
Her research is dedicated to improving surgical safety through patient involvement. Harris holds a PhD from the University of Bergen and a Master’s degree in Critical Care Nursing from Queensland University of Technology, Australia. Her doctoral project focused on the development, validation, and feasibility testing of the Patient Surgical Safety Checklist (PASC)—a tool co-designed with surgical patients and patient representatives to enhance safety and empower patients in perioperative care.
She currently leads a work package in a stepped wedge cluster randomised controlled trial at Haukeland University Hospital, investigating the impact of PASC on surgical outcomes and patient engagement. Her work integrates clinical expertise with participatory research to advance quality and safety in healthcare.
