Lara Ritchie

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust; UK
I am the improvement partner for the improvement team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in the UK.
My career has been predominantly in nursing roles within the field of emergency medicine, with a strong element of clinical practice and leadership. My clinical career has spanned over 20 years working in
emergency departments across London. I have been part of the improvement team at Imperial since its inception and have been involved in local, pathway and strategic change by coaching and leading others to adopt the IHI improvement methodology to focus their change ideas, understand the impact of rapid tests of change and use data and patient stories to measure the improvement success.
Since May 2021 I was appointed as the improvement partner and have the opportunity to develop our strategic goals for improvement, lead our team to strive to build an organisation which embraces a learning and improvement culture.
In addition to my nursing qualifications, I am also a qualified teacher and have worked in postgraduate education at King’s College London.
I have been fortunate to develop, manage and lead on a number of key programmes, single improvement plans and changes to clinical pathways. These include the setting up and overseeing over integrated flow programme, outpatient transformation, the introduction of directorate priorities for improvement which focuses of productivity and efficiency, quality and safety and preventative health. All four areas included designing, developing the infrastructure of the department and formulating policies and pathways to ensure the patient pathway is efficient safe.Over the past 10 years I have harnessed skills to strengthen our organisational approach to improvement and now my role enables me to support, train, coach and facilitate colleagues to undertaken and be part of improvement work at local, organisational and regional levels.
