In this session we will explore how national leadership has nurtured the role of Medications Safety Officers in NHS hospitals and in community care:
- The conception of the Medication Safety Officer: the 2014 origin of structured medication safety leadership.
- The 7 year gestation of Medication Safety Officers: how the role was nurtured and developed.
- The birth of medication safety leadership - A review of the successes so far.
- The pre-school years: preparing the leaders of the future.
- Every day is a school day: how the medication safety leaders of today are supported to lead continuous improvement in medication safety at national scale.
- This session will enable system leaders to develop their own approaches to improving medication safety at national or regional scale.
After this session, participants will be able to:
- Understand the interplay between improvement methods at macro, meso and micro scale.
- Construct a framework that enables the implementation of medication safety improvements at regional or national scale. Dealing with emergent, persistent and intractable medication safety issues.
- Identify the infrastructure needed to co-ordinate improvement at national scale and across sectors.
