Midwife and Associate Professor, University of Southern Denmark; Denmark

A registered midwife by training, her research centres on the impact of adverse events in healthcare on the professionals involved. Her work examines how such experiences influence clinical decision-making, professional practice, and career trajectories. In particular, she is interested in whether involvement in adverse events leads to more defensive or risk-averse practice, and how these experiences may shape longer-term choices, including leaving clinical roles or the profession altogether.

Dr Schrøder has led the development, implementation, and evaluation of The Buddy Study, a structured peer support programme designed to support healthcare professionals following adverse events. She is currently leading the Danish CORE project (Coordinated Organisational Response to Adverse Events), which aims to adapt and test a Norwegian organisational framework in a Danish context. The project seeks to develop and pilot an integrated organisational model that aligns staff support, patient and family follow-up, organisational learning, and leadership engagement. The model will be implemented and evaluated in 3–5 Danish hospital departments.
