Sophie Davison

Dr Sophie Davison is the Australian Government's Chief Psychiatrist. In this role, she provides strategic expert mental health advice on current and emerging issues to key stakeholders, including the Government, the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (DoHDA), and other government departments as required. She engages with health care professionals, Lived Experience organisations and other stakeholders on matters related to mental health policy and service reform and delivery.
Sophie has previously worked for the Western Australian Mental Health Commission, where she was the state Chief Medical Officer-Mental Health. Sophie has also been Western Australia’s Deputy Chief Psychiatrist. In that role she led the development of sexual safety guidelines for mental health services in WA. She is a Forensic Psychiatrist, experienced in various clinical settings in the UK and in WA. Sophie continues to provide forensic mental health services in WA prisons.
Sophie is committed to improving outcomes for people with mental health issues and has an interest in women’s mental health. She values engaging frontline staff and people with Lived Experience in system improvements. Sophie is committed to working towards an integrated system that can provide a holistic approach.
