Thursday 11 April 2024 | 13:15–14:30

Format: Workshop

This interactive workshop will be delivered through a partnership between NHS Horizons and Act Build Change.

The session will include insights from leading community organisers from across the UK, including from the Centre for Progressive Change and the community social enterprise Grapevine.istory shows us that we are more capable of changing the world than one person or institution will ever be. In health and care, we increasingly work across systems and communities and rely on each other to manage and improve significant challenges. We know many of you are involved in creating and developing communities and networks to support the aims of your work. This workshop will provide you with a flavour of community organising and learn about the work happening across the

country by communities on the ground. You will also “get on the bike” and try a tool for yourself to get into the shoes of an organiser!

What is Community Organising?

Community organising is a centuries-old tradition. It is a model for building the collective leadership of people to work together in a shared struggle to improve and transform systems and structures.

Who are Act Build Change?

Act Build Change builds infrastructure to power organising and strengthening our movements. We make the methods of organising and collective care accessible to everyone who wants to end injustice and create better worlds for all of us. Learn more about our work in this report.

Who are NHS Horizons?

NHS Horizons is a specialist transformation unit with an international reputation for developing new ideas, methods and practice that supports large-scale change. We work on NHS and wider health and care priorities, collaborating with leaders to make small changes within a large-scale change framework. In 2022-23 alone, NHS Horizons supported more than 50 programmes, spanning most of the strategic priorities set out in the NHS Long Term Plan and the Planning Guidance.

As part of our overall portfolio, NHS Horizons directly convenes and manages national networks, as well as supporting our clients to co-design, convene and grow the influence of their own networks for change.
