As a Senior Patient Safety & Quality Lead in the Office of Improvement Science, Syahid spearheads staff engagement, climate measurement and competency-building initiatives in Changi General Hospital to cultivate a positive, people-centred, and proactive culture of safety. His key areas of interest in Patient Safety include just culture, psychological safety, civility, systems thinking, learning and improvement. He holds a PhD in Human Factors Engineering and contributes his expertise to guide healthcare staff in analysing human errors and facilitate improvement efforts to develop processes that are user-centered and resilient to human fallibility. He is a passionate advocate for a fair yet caring culture of shared accountability as a foundation for continuous growth in safety and reliability among individuals, teams, leaders and systems. Beyond the hospital, he is a faculty member of the SingHealth Institute of Patient Safety & Quality, running courses on Human Factors and Just Culture for the cluster.
