F2: Safety improvement in mental health

This session will describe learning from two of the largest safety improvement programmes in mental health globally. Scotland will share results and learning from improvement work tackling self-harm, violence, restrictive practice and transition points. East London NHS Foundation Trust will share results and learning from work to reduce inpatient violence (physical and sexual), restrictive practice and medication errors.

After this session, participants will be able to:

1. Identify change ideas that may impact on a number of complex mental health safety issues
2. Consider how to apply systematic continuous improvement to mental health safety issues
3. Recognise the value of partnering with patients in tackling safety in mental health, and develop simple ideas to progress this
