S3: Leading

Thursday 7 November | 10:35-12:05

Session format: Presentation

Stream: Leading

Part 1: Healing healthcare together: rebuilding the workforce and shaping the future of healthcare

The current healthcare workforce shortage and the issues around recruitment and retention are at a crisis point globally.

The loss of leaders and experienced clinicians is tragic and will continue to have a negative effect on health services and the community.

Numerous programs have been developed within health services and professional bodies. Investing in healthcare workers through co-design with workers and consumers is vital to sustaining the healthcare workforce for future generations.

The Experience Team in the NSW Health Ministry supports healthcare workers and consumers by implementing various successful wellbeing programs including Schwartz Rounds state-wide.

Part 2: Beyond technology: consumers and culture at the heart of digital transformation

This panel will explore the cultural and digital transformation underway to realise the benefits of consumer partnerships throughout the full policy development lifecycle and activity to develop and implement national regulation, infrastructure, standards, and behaviour and health sector culture change initiatives.

Trusted, timely, safe, high quality, and accessible use of digital and data underpins a personalised and connected health and wellbeing experience for all Australians. Improving safety and quality in healthcare requires an ongoing mature, respectful, and effective partnership in design and decision-making through a process that embeds consumer insight and expertise in the development of national digital health initiatives that drive sharing of health information by default.

Part 3: Leading successful teams requires a high level of collaboration. Learn the essentials

In any organisation, the power of teams to effectively collaborate can be the difference between success and failure in the provision of high-quality service delivery. Collaboration is active, intentional with clear goal setting. It takes place when teams come together around a shared goal/vision.

The role of leadership is to provide ‘the why’ this matters and to articulate a clear vision for what success will look like. This workshop will look at leadership traits for success. It will demonstrate what happens when collaboration fails and what happens when teams successfully collaborate.

The workshop will be highly interactive, using video debriefs, storytelling, and a simulation to demonstrate the power of colaboration.
