Dr. Hou, is the president of Shin Kong Wu Ho-Su Memorial Hospital and Professor emeritus of the National Taiwan University since 2010. Being an orthopaedic surgeon by training, Dr. Hou became a professor in orthopaedics in 1993. He went to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 1994 as part of the Taiwan Health Elites Program. Dr. Hou completed his master’s degree with honors. Then he served as the Minister of Health, Taiwan (ROC) from 2005 to 2008. In recent years they accomplished important investigations and the implementation of Patient Safety in Taiwan. Dr. Hou’s interests also involve Health Technology Assessment, Evidence-based Medicine and Quality Management in healthcare. He is still an active researcher who has published over 254 scientific papers in international journals. He was also a well-experienced leader of healthcare organizations as superintendent of Provincial Taipei Hospital, chairman of National Taiwan University School of Medicine, president of Taiwan Orthopedic Association as well as many other scientific organizations. Now he voluntarily serves as the President of Taiwan Blood Services Foundation.
