Maureen Tshabalala

Dr. Maureen Tshabalala is a public health practitioner with over 20 years of experience in global and public health, with emphasis on Science of Improvement (SOI) and Health Systems Strengthening (HSS). She is currently a Senior Director for Global Delivery at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), where she leads and manages IHI’s improvement projects funded by various donors and works with myriad partners in Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond. She currently leads and oversees diverse projects in several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa (South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Uganda, and Tanzania) and in Indonesia. She is a trained improvement science specialist (Improvement Advisor) and has extensively led several improvement collaboratives in multiple countries. She is a content contributor and teaches IHI’s in-person and virtual professional development programs, globally. Before joining IHI 12 years ago, she worked for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) as a Quality Improvement Manager. Dr. Tshabalala holds several qualifications, including MPH from University of South Africa, and a PhD in Public Health from Walden University, USA.
