PART ONE: Getting started with value-based health care

Join us for an engaging workshop on implementing Value-Based Health Care (VBHC)! Discover how VBHC can improve patient outcomes, reduce costs, and boost job satisfaction for healthcare professionals.

Our crash course will cover the core principles of VBHC and the importance of integrating it into your practice. We will explore the seven domains of VBHC with real-life examples from Dutch hospitals. Through the QuickScan exercise, you’ll assess your own VBHC practices and identify areas for improvement. This interactive workshop encourages you to examine what is working well and explore strategies for enhancing your performance.

Perfect for healthcare providers, support staff, policymakers, health insurers, researchers, and industry professionals, this session offers the chance to learn, engage, and improve patient outcomes. Don’t miss this opportunity to elevate your practice!

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand why Value-Based Health Care must be the guiding principle in healthcare transformation

  • Describe the seven domains of Value-Based Health Care and their interconnections

  • Assess your own VBHC performance by using the QuickScan

PART TWO: How do we define and demonstrate value (especially economic value) from quality improvement?

Does improving quality in health and care cost money or save money? The answer is often unknown, because we don’t do the analysis to address the question. There is often a reluctance to explicitly consider financial value arising from improvement efforts, from fears that it might alienate a frontline workforce, whose contribution is pivotal to successful QI. This session will present work undertaken by Warwick Business School and the NHS Horizons team with hundreds of healthcare leaders from across the English NHS to explore the economic value of QI. We’ll share examples of work happening to define and demonstrate value across international health systems and discuss the social case, the business case and economic case for investing in QI. We will present our 10 design principles for creating a value framework to ensure a consistent and impactful implementation across healthcare settings and discuss next steps in this work.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate between the social case, the business case and economic case for investing in QI and make the economic case more strongly Appreciate the issues in creating a narrative around the financial value of QI and how it fits with other aims for QI

  • Understand how to integrate QI into strategic priorities effectively, using our design principles
