James and Joan Findlay had been married for 62 years. Joan had dementia and James was her principal carer. When James is diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease aged 85, the family find themselves having to negotiate a fractured health and social care system.

’Fighting For Life’ play is inspired by a family-written case study, The Findlay Report, published after James’s death. The family wished to chart the issues they experienced around caring for older people.

The play develops the narrative and presents the wider life stories of Joan and Jim and the things they did. It involves four actors playing the two parents, a daughter and one actor playing various health/social care professionals.

A performance is followed by a panel discussion involving a question-and-answer session with the audience.
