Everyone recognises the importance of leadership in nursing. But the question is how to organise it.  In order to maximise the involvement of nurses in the quality of care, structured quality groups have been set up. Nurses from each of the clinical wards are involved in one of the 12 self-managed quality groups. These groups have facilitation and support from the nurses’ committee and the quality, safety and innovation department, the management team and the board of the hospital.

The quality groups enable problems to be solved efficiently from a nursing perspective through proactive input from nurses on a range of subjects. This approach is effective as it is well known and well-defined company wide. The quality groups are even involved in strategic projects in the hospital.

  • How to improve quality of care by supporting nurses to take leadership from a nursing perspective

  • How to facilitate nurses to take ownership of the nursing profession and the professional development of nursing

  • The impact of quality groups on the implementation of projects and the leadership capacity to improve quality of care associated with hospital strategy
