In recent years, we have gained experience with a restorative approach after serious adverse events for both healthcare providers as well as patients and their families. We have learned that we can do much more than just technically explain the investigation report and what we have learned from it. As part of our recovery-oriented approach, we offer all patients a case manager who aligns with the patient’s needs as closely as possible. This varies from case to case. In this presentation, we will explain practical examples of our approach, the case manager will share her experiences, and a family member will describe how this approach has influenced his recovery.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Incorporate concrete examples in their own organisation
- Be able to define what restorative just culture after serious adverse events for patients and their families means
- Highlight the significance of a culture to restore trust into the organisational strategy
