Alan Lilly is an independent consultant in health and aged care. He has had a lifetime career in the health and aged care sectors working across public, private and not-for-profit organisations and prior to consulting, he was a health service executive and Chief Executive for almost twenty years.


He has recently completed and co-authored a number of independent reviews into COVID-19 outbreaks for the Commonwealth Department of Health and prior to this, worked extensively on matters related to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. Alan is currently a member of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) Aged Care Advisory Group and was a member of the National Aged Care Workforce Strategy Taskforce. He is a member of the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards Improvement Academy Faculty and is an Adjunct Professor with Australian Catholic University.


Alan is a Registered Psychiatric Nurse and Registered General Nurse by background, with a Graduate Diploma in Health Services Management and Master of Business in Health Administration. He is a Fellow and Certified Health Executive of the Australasian College of Health Service Management, a Fellow of the Institute of Managers & Leaders and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.


A former health service Accreditation Surveyor with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards, his professional interests are in leadership, operational excellence, clinical governance, care quality & safety and the consumer experience.
