Ajibola Lewis

Lawyer, Royal College of Psychiatrists; England

Ajibola (Aji) Lewis is a lawyer whose son Seni died as a result of restraint in a mental health hospital in 2010. After nearly a decade of campaigning the Mental Health (use of force) Bill, known as Seni’s Law, received royal assent in 2018. This new law increases the oversight and protection from the use of force in mental health settings.

Aji has made many media appearances during the last decade, most recently on national BBC news in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd, whose last words “I can’t breathe” were the same as Seni’s ten years before him.
