A1: Human Factors: How to connect humans with systems and processes for better culture and better performance

Thursday 19th September 2019
11:00am-12:15pm

Even the most diligent and competent people make mistakes. The science of human factors helps us to understand why this is and what we can do to build systems that make it easy to do the right thing and hard to do the wrong thing. In this session we’ll develop our understanding of the human condition, and, focusing on the behavioural aspects, look at specific tactics and tools that can be used to prevent and mitigate human error in healthcare and improve patient safety.

After this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the human condition and how human factors influence safety and performance.

  • Implement tools and tactics to improve safety.

  • Identify opportunities for improving human factors in your own setting.
