Marieke Zegers is a health scientist with more than 18 years experience in quality and safety research. She leads the largest ICU trial on patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) worldwide.

Currently, her research focusses on the need to refocus on quality measurement by seeing it primarily as a means to allow clinicians to reflect, learn and improve at the micro/meso level rather than as a tool for benchmarking and accountability purposes at the macro level.

Using of a core set of measures developed by clinicians and patients together, lead to more effective governance, proactive clinicians in quality improvement and better patient outcomes.
