Urban Nylén MD, PhD, is Senior Medical Officer at the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare where he is involved in development of patient safety in a national perspective.

2012-2015 Urban Nylén was head of the Patient safety unit at the Karolinska University Hospital and before that he did work with a wide range of quality and patient safety development issues at the hospital. He has been involved in a wide range of educational activities on different aspects of oncology and of patient safety at hospital level and nationally.

Since 2011 he has participated in the working group that drives the national Swedish initiative with medical record review (GTT). Handbooks, databases, education and evaluation are essential parts of this.

Urban Nylén was specialised in clinical oncology in 1991 and passed a doctoral degree in 2000 on a thesis over experimental oncology. As a clinical oncologist Urban is specialised in the treatment of breast cancer.
