Healthcare systems face many challenges in delivering high-quality care, ensuring patient and staff safety and reducing costs. How can they overcome these challenges and achieve better outcomes for patients and financial sustainability? This session will address the increasing need for service and care environments to simultaneously create and deliver improved outcomes in a range of priorities which traditionally may not have been expected to compliment one another.

We will share practical approaches through multidisciplinary work that has shown to effectively deliver these elements of high-quality care with impressive results. You will have opportunity to try out tools that will help you explore your local context and consider how to advance efforts that align local improvement work with the organisational strategy; reducing cost variation and waste, delivering safe reliable care, and impacts on experience and joy in work.

As a result of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise the importance of aligning improvement efforts to create a whole team approach to quality in care and service environments

  • Describe a method to support the practical steps of teams working to improve quality, safety, productivity and experience

  • Apply practical tools to build alignment across the system for improvement

  • Understand methods that empower teams to independently manage financial requirements as part of their approach to quality
