Empowering frontline staff to link demand and capacity planning to quality improvement
Lengthening waiting lists and their associated negative impact upon patient outcomes, and patient and staff experience, are common across many healthcare services. Key to tackling this challenge is an understanding of demand and capacity across all parts of the pathway. However, this remains a challenge for many community services. Quality improvement specialists from a community NHS Trust responded to this challenge by piloting an innovative training programme, for frontline clinicians, integrating demand and capacity planning and management with quality improvement. Programme format and content will be introduced. Next steps, including plans for spread and sustainability will be discussed.
- Understand the key components of a training programme, for frontline clinicians, integrating demand and capacity planning and management with quality improvement
- Apply some key demand and capacity principles to review and improve patient flow
- Identify critical factors enabling successful implementation and growth of a novel approach to improving service demand and capacity management and planning
