Landspitali in Reykjavík and The Royal Free Hospital in London have independently designed, tested, and operationalised ‘What Matters to Staff’ Programmes. Both programmes use an almost identical, standardised approach which enables teams to discover what matters to their staff, encourages listening and supports teams to make changes as a result.

This session will cover:

  • The importance of designing an approach that enables staff to voice what matters to them using improvement methodology

  • How the programmes were designed with learning from JiW Framework and how they have both met the challenges of large scale spread on minimal resourcing

  • How we equipped and empowered managers with insights regarding what matters to their team and how we support them to make changes together

  • The methods, tools, measurements and techniques used in both programmes

  • The outcomes, learning and impact from running large staff wellbeing programmes

As a result of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Appreciate the power of asking, listening and doing what matters

  • Describe the key factors for success when working on large scale staff wellbeing

  • initiatives

  • Understand the importance of Exec sponsorship and how to maximise its impact when undertaking large-scale improvement work

  • Be aware of the pitfalls and learn from our mistakes

  • Replicate aspects of the programme in their own area
