Journalists from The BMJ Investigations Unit share their experiences of working with whistleblowers and tips on how best to achieve impact. Drawing on past examples, we will consider the law and regulations protecting whistleblowers in the public sector, examples of what whistleblowing can achieve as well as the personal and professional risks of speaking out.


By the end of this session, participants will be able to:



  • Know what legal protections whistleblowers have

  • Reduce the risks associated with whistleblowing

  • Contact journalists and send information securely
