Director General of Health and Chief Executive, Ministry of Health; New Zealand

Ashley Bloomfield is the Director-General of Health and Chief Executive at the Ministry of Health. He trained as a medical doctor at the University of Auckland, and later completed a Master’s in Public Health. Dr Bloomfield has held several positions of leadership including Chief Executive at Hutt Valley District Health Board from 2015 to 2018, Director of Public Health, and a stint at the World Health Organization. His interests in public health are in the prevention of non-communicable diseases, however recently, Dr Bloomfield’s influential leadership has been on display as part of New Zealand’s Covid-19 pandemic response.
