L6: YES, it works – Integration of improvement methods into shared decision making implementation

Wednesday 17 May | 12:30-13:00

Format: Workshop
Stream: Person and family centred care
Content filters: Equity

Although there is no explicit description of patient involvement in Danish legislation, patient centred care is on the political agenda in Denmark.

Moreover, there is growing interest among Danish healthcare professionals to practise Shared Decision Making (SDM) as a method to patient-centred care. Although SDM is still far from standard practice in Denmark, one of five Danish regions set out to succeed and to develop a model that ensures lasting SDM based on learnings from large-scale real-world implementation initiatives in a hospital setting, which integrates improvement methodology, specific improvement tools and SDM research.

After this session, participants will be able to:

  • Learn which overall elements are needed to succeed with SDM implementation

  • Obtain knowledge and see examples of which specific improvement tools would be helpful in SDM implementation

  • Be motivated to integrate SDM in daily hospital practice and learn how to get started
