Patient safety expert, physician-scientist and international leader in patient safety and health services research, and in the measuring and improving the quality of health care. He is widely recognized as a research methodologist and epidemiologist for both health services and patient-centered outcomes research and as a leading thinker about how to produce generalizable knowledge from community engaged research. He helped author the Team Training program TeamSTEPPS, focusing on developing a culture of safety to sustain staff. He advises several governments and international professional bodies regarding staff and patient safety issues. He has published 200 papers, 5 books and given over 400 invited talks including over 50 keynotes. He served as Editor of BMJ Safety and Quality.
