B3: Reshaping access to emergency care pathways by implementing meaningful upstream interventions

Tuesday 16 May | 13:15-14:30

Emergency care services across the globe are increasingly dealing with a wider variety of presenting issues, and a greater volume of activity. The double whammy of breadth and depth inevitably has an impact on the quality and safety of the service being provided in these acute settings. This session will present an innovative model which has implemented a range of upstream interventions which have resulted in positive outcomes across a range of clinical, social, organisational and financial indicators. We will share our learning, and our challenges, from setting up an entirely novel system-wide solution to urgent and emergency care.

After this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the Remote Emergency Access Coordination Hub (REACH) concept and operating model

  • Appreciate a novel approach to sharing risk through collaboration and integration

  • Understand barriers and learning associated with system-wide transformation in emergency care

  • Consider how similar models may be implemented in other healthcare systems
