B8: Changing the way we work is hard… how can we help people to do things differently?

Tuesday 16 May | 13:15-14:30

Format: Workshops
Stream: Improvement methods
Content filters: Features discussion of improvement methodology

All improvement involves change. As improvers and leaders we are continually looking for ways to ensure the people involved in the change – our staff, patients and the public – are well supported to make these changes.  A key part of change is about changing behaviours, which can be complex, and not always prioritised.

This session will examine:

  • How can we rebalance our focus from an emphasis on the systems and processes towards an emphasis on relationships and behaviours?

  • How can we think differently about the behavioural side of change by embedding co-design to support people to understand change from other people’s perspectives

  • How can we design our communications to encourage people to behave differently?

After this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of achieving a balance between system and process (‘rational’) change and relationship and behaviour (‘relational’) change

  • Learn about different approaches to co-designing and communicating for change

  • Translate this learning into their own context through interactive discussion
